Vermiculite is a natural, inorganic, non-toxic mineral that expands under high temperature. It is a relatively rare mineral and belongs to the silicate group. Its crystal structure is monoclinic and its appearance resembles mica. Vermiculite is formed when certain granite is hydrated. It is usually produced along with asbestos. Due to its ion-exchange ability, vermiculite has a significant effect on soil nutrition.

Nature

Chrysolite is usually in the form of thin plates; it can be brown, golden yellow, bronze, green or colorless; it has a lustrous appearance. Its hardness ranges from 1 to 1.5; its density is 2.4 to 2.7 g/cm³. When chrysolite is baked at 800 to 1000°C, its volume expands rapidly, increasing by 6 to 15 times, with the maximum increase reaching 30 times. The melting point is 1300 to 1450°C, and the melting point of expanded chrysolite varies slightly.

Product usage

1.Building application: Vermiculite can be used as lightweight materials, lightweight concrete aggregates, heat-resistant materials, wall materials, fireproof boards, fireproof mortars, refractory bricks, etc., to reduce floor load, prevent fire, provide insulation and heat preservation, and achieve sound insulation. 
2.Agricultural and horticultural uses: Vermiculite can be used as a soil conditioner, seed preservation agent, soil regulator, moisture-retaining agent, plant growth promoter, etc. It can improve soil structure, store water and retain moisture, enhance soil aeration and water retention capacity, promote plant growth, and increase crop yields. 
3.Metallurgical application: Vermiculite can be used as a coating material for steel frames, for iron production, for slag removal in casting, and as a coating material for steel frames in high-rise buildings, etc. 
4.Other applications: Vermiculite can also be used as an adsorbent, helpful filter agent, an active carrier for chemical products and fertilizers, for wastewater treatment, for adsorbing oil spills from seawater, for cigarette filters, and as a density regulator for explosives. 
In addition, adding vermiculite to animal feed can act as a growth accelerator, increasing production and yield, raising the meat production rate of animals, making them healthier, improving the quality of meat, eggs and milk, saving feed, and reducing the moisture content of bedding and manure.
