Diatomite is a biogenic siliceous sedimentary rock. Its main component is amorphous silicon dioxide (SiO2), which can be represented as SiO2·nH2O. The mineral composition is amorphous opal and its variants. Siltstone is usually light yellow or light gray. With the increase of impurities, it may turn yellow or green. It is soft, porous and light, with a bulk density of 0.34 - 0.65 g/cm³, a high water absorption rate, and is 2 - 4 times the volume of its own. At the same time, it has high chemical stability and thermal stability, and excellent adsorption performance.
